Some blogging history
I started blogging in 2008, after moving (back) from California to Germany. This blog was previously published at https://blog.4loeser.net using the Blogger.com platform. Several times over the years I thought about moving to Markdown, generated static pages, and a Git-based approach of managing blog posts and related resources. Well, those plans always stayed plans for lack of time. This was until a long weekend in May 2025.
Then, I moved the blog off Google and to its new home at https://data-henrik.de. The site utilizes Hugo as static side generator and a customized theme based on Stack (designed by Jimmy Cai). Some basic GDPR-friendly analytics is obtained via Simple Analytics.
The migration basically was to export my old blog as one big XML file, run a nicely handcrafted Python script over that file and hope for the best. The more complex or weird the HTML coding in the original post, the more interesting the output. But overall I am satisfied with the result, even though I spotted wrong results.
